Welcome to Season Two of The Human Frame with me, Łucja Hawking.
In this season introduction, I share what's to come as we step into a new collection of conversations exploring the intersection of human rights and creativity. From filmmakers and actors to musicians and storytellers, this season features inspiring guests including Alisa Kovalenko, Yago Cardalda, Honor Roche, Ania Drewnok and many more, each offering a unique perspective on the power of art to shape culture, challenge injustice and connect us to one another. Welcome back to the Human Frame Podcast. I'm your host, Woodsia Hawking. I've always been fascinated by people and the stories that they carry. My background is in human rights and the arts as an actor, writer, director, and a musician. This podcast was born from my simple belief that creativity has the power not only to tell stories but to change the way we see one another from various works that I've done in different human rights organizations as a communications specialist. This season we're bringing together filmmakers, musicians, performers, and storytellers whose work asks difficult questions, celebrates resilience, and reminds us what it means to be human. We'll hear from the acclaimed Ukrainian filmmaker Alissa Kovalenko, whose films document war, memory, and extraordinary courage.
SPEAKER_02Just after I came back from the frontline and I even didn't watch what I filmed, I didn't read what I wrote, I survived. But after my brothers in arms started to die, just one after another, and all of them had children all almost the same age as my son Tel, and I started to think about maybe transformation of what I managed to film, to to write, that maybe this film can become a breach of memory between us parents who went to fight and our children.
SPEAKER_01Well, that that's a funny story because in the school they called me Carate Kid.
SPEAKER_00It's very similar with Bridgerton because the people were so great. There was about 25 of us in season one with all those big dance scenes.
SPEAKER_03Along with other various artists, actors, performers, and human rights campaigners. Across every conversation, we'll explore the same question from a different angle and even dig deeper into the human complexities and stories that we all tell so that we can understand ourselves and each other just a little bit better. These conversations won't always offer easy answers, but I hope that they'll leave you feeling inspired, challenged, and perhaps just a little bit more curious. Let's begin.
